In Game 2, Westbrook was benched by coach Scott Brooks in the 3rd quarter after reacting far too emotionally after his teammates botched a play he called. After they got the play wrong, Westbrook took the ball by himself to the basket where he missed and led to a Dallas field goal. While on the bench, Westbrook started a profanity-laced tirade seemingly at nobody, just staring into empty space (as pictured) and yelling angry stuff. After his benching, Scott Brooks did not play Westbrook at all in the 4th quarter, preferring to stick with his bench that was giving Dallas' starters a serious beating and led to the Thunder winning the game.
All 3 games thus far have been determined by Westbrook's play. Games 1 and 3 were lost due to Westbrook playing like a ball-hog and his inability to make consistent jump shots. Game 2 was won because he did not play for an entire quarter.
Following his benching, an anonymous veteran Thunder player told sources that Westbrook believes he is a better player than Kevin Durant and thinks he should be the leader, not Durant. This news has been hitting all the sports analysts with extreme bouts of laughter because Westbrook is clearly out of his mind and pissed that the entire NBA is now seeing him for what he is: just a kid who runs REALLY fast and nothing else.
Let's start off by comparing Westbrook's and Durant's statistics!
Kevin Durant Career Averages:
- 46.2% FG%, 35.7% 3P%, 88.0% FT%, 6.3 RPG, 2.7 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.9 BPG, 3.01 TO, 1.87 PF, 25.9 PPG
- 42.1% FG%, 27.4% 3P%, 81.6% FT%, 4.8 RPG, 7.1 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 3.49 TO, 2.45 PF, 17.8 PPG
Suffice it to say, Westbrook is an idiot. A little known fact, the only reason he was accepted to UCLA was because one of the basketball scholarships decided not to go to UCLA and the school decided to give it to Westbrook instead, who was on pace to not even go to college. At UCLA, Westbrook was not particularly interesting, being overshadowed by his teammate Kevin Love. For some reason, the Thunder thought that Westbrook would be the better player, picking Westbrook 4th overall while the Grizzlies selected Love 5th (traded to Minnesota in exchange for OJ Mayo, drafted 3rd). Today, we all know that Kevin Love is a much better player than Westbrook is, so it just goes to show how terrible OKC's draft pick was.
If the Thunder, as widely predicted, lose this series, you can bet that Russell Westbrook will facing the trading block. At this stage of his career, he can get away with being fast and not knowing how to play defense, but in 5 more years his career will plummet if he doesn't learn how to make a jump shot.
