Don't bother watching this year.

We now live in a world where Jonah Hill is an Oscar-nominated actor. There are a lot of snubs this year, but I'm instead going to point out movies that have no business being nominated for Best Picture, most notably War Horse and Moneyball. Why was Jonah Hill nominated for Best Supporting Actor over Albert Brooks in Drive? The Ides of March got nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and nothing else? Kung Fu Panda 2 got nominated for Best Animated Feature over The Adventures of Tintin? Really? Why is the Best Original Song category only 2 songs now?

WHY WAS WAR HORSE NOMINATED FOR ANYTHING AT ALL? THE HELP? SERIOUSLY? THE HELP FOR BEST PICTURE? BRIDESMAIDS GETS TWO OSCAR NODS? ARE YOU F@$KING SERIOUS?

These nominations are just insulting. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the Golden Globes were far more deserving this year. Moviefone apparently agrees with my disgust of these nominees.

Moviefone's Biggest Oscar Snubs of 2012:

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 - Best Picture
  • Albert Brooks - Best Supporting Actor - Drive
  • David Fincher - Best Director - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • Steven Spielberg - Best Director - War Horse
  • Ryan Gosling - Best Actor - Drive AND/OR The Ides of March
  • Bridesmaids - Best Picture
  • Michael Fassbender - Best Actor - Shame
  • Leonardo DiCaprio - Best Actor - J. Edgar
  • Tilda Swinton - Best Actress - We Need to Talk About Kevin
  • Tate Taylor - Best Director - The Help
  • The Adventures of Tintin - Best Animated Feature
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - Best Picture
  • Drive - Best Picture
  • Elizabeth Olsen - Best Actress - Martha Marcy May Marlene
  • Sandra Bullock - Best Supporting Actress - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
  • Shailene Woodley - Best Supporting Actress - The Descendants
Moviefone's Biggest Oscar Surprises (AKA "why did they get nominated") of 2012:
  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - Best Picture
  • Rooney Mara - Best Actress - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • A Separation - Best Original Screenplay
  • Demian Bechir - Best Actor - A Better Life
  • Gary Oldman - Best Actor - Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Some of the snubs listed by Moviefone are logical fallacies rather than nominees that were deserving. For example, War Horse was nominated for Best Picture, but Steven Spielberg was not nominated for Best Director, while 3 total unknowns were nominated instead. Obviously, the biggest Oscar snub was Drive, which was ignored for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Supporting Actor. Ryan Gosling also has to be feeling pretty down, having Oscar caliber performances in Drive and The Ides of March.

That being said, Drive will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on January 30 and has been available on iTunes since January 17! Go watch it and show the Academy how incredibly dumb they are!
